renewal due-
on line it is 45 cheaper than the renewal they sent me.. usual rubbish of brand new customers only discount- nothing for loyalty .. and if i try join as new on line it flags up I not new and defers to higher price. so do I go to the AA as a new customer and flip each year.. (aa do monthy payment scheme too) but AA I think dont come out if you had a crash !" ?? and they aint as hot on bikes as RAC .. I been happy with RAC but its principle and a 45 quid difference. what u think? any experiences? do you know if AA are as good as RAC on bike repair/ recovery |

Yeah - I phoned up to cancel, and surprise surprise was offered a lower price. Pain in the rear having to do it each year, and you have to be able to carry out your threat. (just incase the monkey on the phone is having a bad day)

£175 RAC £130 AA for me and mand .. individual personal cover so covers US not vehicle.. good for both cars and bike..

I will NEVER sign with the AA again having been stung twice by them and no they don't cover accidents.
I signed up with them and broke down and had to wait 3-4 hours for a guy to reach me...sans bike trailer....so que another hour waiting for a bike trailer....so the next time I broke down about 3 miles from home but pushed the bike home before calling as it was peak time and I didn't fancy sitting by the road for hours. Found out I needed homestart as i was now less than 3 miles from home and had to pay £50 to upgrade + a call out fee........3 hours later he finally rocks up and fixes the bike. A month or so later I broke down 7 miles from home...and found out I need "relay" because I was more than 6 miles from home..so another £50 upgrade + call out fee... Asked if I could "push" the bike the mile back they said "sorry we record all our calls and you broke down outside of your membership area" or something to that effect. To say I was p*ssed at this point is an understatement so I told them to shove it, and called BMW breakdown instead that came free with the bike and they picked me up no questions no fuss, not only that but they even agreed to drop me to my work with the bike, then pick me AND bike up again after work to drop me home, then pick me up a 3rd time the next day to get me to the garage!! for FREE....up your's AA!!! AA only cover you for a 3mile band around your home and only for mechanical breakdowns, accidents not covered. I mean seriously...how many people break down exactly within a 3 mile radius of their home.... *the only downside to BMW recovery is they only recover you to a BMW garage and they charge for puncture repairs (cost of the kit) whereas the AA did this free and it's something I seem to use often but hey ho.... Just tell them is costs them more to recruit a new customer than to keep an existing one. Tell them the best price you have had for elsewhere. Tell them they have 4 hours to match it or better it or you are an ex customer. Bet you they will come back with something in about 15 minutes.

Got there in 20 mins, impressed, fixed tyre (Simple straight in nail) On way in 40 mins from call. However, they naffed the trye up putting the bung in! So new tyre thanks to the RAC bafoon. AA however just make you wait, but they seem to get things right 1st time. Never had an issue with the AA either fixing the problem, collecting the bike after an off, or getting the car/bike home in the event of a relay situation. Phone them, tell them the way it is straight, and if they won't do the lower price then walk, simple.
I've always found the RAC insurance quote a lower price over the phone than the online figure, I guess the callcentre work on commission so use whatever discretion they have to get the sale. Don't know if the breakdown side will work the same, but they'd be daft to lose a customer.

I pay a few extra £/month (I think £11?) for a Barclays Premier acct. It's on my joint acct with my wife, and it includes (amongst many other benefits like travel insurance) RAC coverage for the acct holders -so that's coverage for both me and the Mrs. Seems a pretty good deal to me, and it's one less thing (actually a few less things) I have to think about.
After about a year of paying the account fee, the Mrs was starting to wonder if it was worth bothering. Then on day-1 of a week-long road trip, I lost a rear wheel (studs had sheared off) from my Hilux Surf on the A1, close to nowhere. They had to send out a flatbed and towed us for nearly an hour to a garage that could source the parts to get us back on the road. I'm sure that more than covered our years worth of acct fees -she hasn't questioned it since. Anyhow, not a plug for Barclay's, but might be worth checking at your own bank to see if they have anything similar.
