Default camchain tensioner confusion

after perusing the haynes manual and a couple of searches on here, im still a little confused about sorting camchain tensioner issues.

can the tensioners be reset without removing them from the engine or do they need to be taken out, desiezed and reset then refitted?

also, if they need replacing will the later model version fit my '99 sv? presumably the revised design is better in some way.

cheers

Default Re: camchain tensioner confusion

The curvy tensioners are on springs and inevitably sieze. The best thing to do is to replace them with tensioners from the pointy K3 bike. I got a set off ebay and bob's your uncle. The K3 have a spring and ratchet and are a far better design.
