Default No fuel pump noise when switching on ignition

Hi,
I've done a search on the forums and wonder if there are any more things I can try to rectify this problem.

When I turn the ignition key, all the regular lights and such show up, I don't hear the fuel pump pressurising and have FI showing on the display.

If I turn the key on and off it will eventually start to work. I searched for solutions and will try giving the ignition key slot a squirt with WD, as was advised in a previous post.

is there anything else that could be worth a go before I take it in to the shop? I have only just got back from an extra week stranded in Tenerife courtesy of that Icelandic volcano, so would appreciate any money saving tips that could be given!

Cheers

The kill switch was in the on position, but I did try flicking it on and off a couple of times in case it wasn't made - perhaps that could do with a squirt too !

Does the dash come up with "CHEC" (i think thats what it says) where the temperature should be when you switch on the ignition?

I don't see it saying "chec" - I just have "FI" in the display, and the fuel warning light stays on, although it has a tank full of petrol.

Gave it a squirt of WD this morning into the ignition switch, it only took 3 off and ons before I was able to start, so I'm wondering if there may be a loose contact, but I'll try the switches that dp mentioned - thanks

Update,

I gave the ignition barrel a good dousing with WD and the fuel pump hasn't failed to come on since

Nice cheap fix - lovely!

I post this as a lot of the posts I found when searching this problem didn't have any follow-ups, hope this helps someone else!
