How much oil did you need to top it up with after the ride?
Did the oil pressure light ever come on, or did it not get to that stage? Sounds like you've spun a bearing, tbh. It's pretty much terminal and it's usually cheaper to replace the engine. |

I wouldn't be riding it after that happend. Id just buy another engine. Isn't hard to replace it really, easier than stripping it.

]Neeja, I really can't remember how much, but it was definitely a fair amount.
Ta fizzwheel. Beabert - I have been looking, they are going for about £600, and they are very hard to find. I just don't want to spend that amount of money to find that my problems were an easy/cheap fix. I’m thinking more along the cost implications at the moment, but appreciate if it’s a bloody hard job then it will be hard to find someone to come and help me fix it. And the labour for a garage would bend me over. From what I've described (not very well) could it be by any chance something simple, or is it 99% something very hard/expensive to fix? The short answer is that we'll need more diagnosis before we know whether it's terminal, imagined, or fixable.
You're going to need to work out what part of the motor's making the noise. Top end rattle (you've got 2 top ends, does it affect the front & rear or just one)? Bottom end rattle by the centre of the engine is less fixable. The easiest thing to do is find another SV in good health and compare the noises side by side as it makes it a little less important that you've not heard these noises before. You never know, fingers crossed it may be an easy fix, and possibly even unrelated, though I'm not terribly optimistic. Jambo P.S Noble Ox, can you change your font colour in your user CP (Underneath the Gladius on the banner) so it's not set to black. I can't see the text ![]()

Ahh ok, I've got my eye on an engine which ends on flebay soon. So I will try and do this?? But the noises only happen when riding, when stood still it sounded pretty normal, and I don't know anyone with an SV (cough cough Madlanders, cough!!)
In all your replies the font is Black - Im very confused! What colour shall I put it as then?! |

im happy to come round and you listen to mine lol, mines a curvy but id imagine they sound the same. If it only makes a noise when moving it could be gear box/clutch related. Ride it in different gears see if the sound gets worse? be careful.

Good luck with the motor, but before you spend money get a decent opinion. You wouldn't be the first to replace an expensive component without being sure of the basics. A dry / poor condition chain can make a lot of noise on the go, and you'll kick yourself if you've changed the motor without needing to. In a lot of these cases the motor is some degree of knackered, but I'm exceedingly tight with money so like to be certain before I part with any. Jambo
