Hi, Im interested to know the pros and cons of jack up kits for the sv650, mainly sk1 really. They certainly look better for it, but what does it do for handling?
Im asking, as ive seen some jack up dog leg thingies on ebay, so wanted to know the ins and outs, the other thing is the bike isnt tall, and mabe the increased height would be a bonus. cheers, Lee |

First thing, dont buy cr&p cheap dogbones. They are a stressed component and if they break when riding you'll be in big trouble.
The way the shock mounting geometry works, the shorter the dogbones the more it will raise the rear of the bike. If you only raise (or lower) the rear then you'll alter the attitude of the bike, that is not make it grumpy but alter its position relative to the ground. It will either be more nose down or more nose up depending on the change. Raising the rear only will alter the rake angle of the forks and change the characteristics of the steering typically making it feel more sensetive or snatchy depending on your point of view. If you want to raise the bike without altering the steering feel that much then you can raise the front also by dropping the forks through the tripple clamps by a uniform amount. Top tip, measure everything accurately before you start and you'll be able to reset it back to where it was if necessary. |

Thanks for the info, that certainly helps, I really didnt think about the dogbone quality and how that would impare!! I was mainly thinking of raising the rear a little and how that would affect the bike.
i`ll have a look at everything on the bike just to see how it fits, where its supposed to be etc. One thing I have noticed is my bars have been lowered about 15 mm down the forks, not sure why, maybe the previous owner wanted to get behind the screen. |

Pros.
Increase height for looks (main reason they're fitted) Decrease rake, faster turning Increase swingarm angle to reduce squat Cons Who knows what it does to linkage ratio Puts more weight on the crap overloaded forks Shock is too crap to take advantage of any 'improved' geometry If you want to do it, buy proper shock that has ride height adjuster. Unless you are very light in which case SRAD shock works well.

I just bought an SRAD 600 shock, supposed to be about right spring rate for runts like us. And yeh its a bit longer than stock so probably best to try that without changing dogbones first and see what its like. SRAD shock will require chopping into battery box and raising battery with spacers to give clearance for gas resevoir.

Plus chopping bottom of tank hinge off.
Good shock though, getting on to proper length (about 350).

Can I use the leebex thread, instead of open a new one.
I will change my rear shock with "GSXR-1000" K7, which is 15mm. short from stock, BUT my "GSXR-600" K5 front end is about 25mm. shoter from stock too. Do I have to change the dog bones or it's just equally to rise the back of the bike with 10mm. (difference between fron and rear)?! |
