Has your Mum offered you a choice or something? That's such a completely diverse selection it can't be because you've found two in the small adds.....

lol, my mothers not involved with this.
I've got the astra and quite like it and I've got the option to buy my dads bmw as he was offered next to nothing in px. Astra is smallish and fun to drive. Bmw has a nicer engine, is nicer inside, and its a bit more useful. |

mileage is wrong on the beemer, i believe that is the mileage they like to start going lame
having said that if there is proof of service history ect then maybe worth a punt but personally i would walk away my 2000 astra is approaching 90k and i've just done the head gasket, belts yada yada ya... amongst other stuff so maybe worth going for a lower mileage car all together Last edited by Wideboy; 08-06-10 at 08:12 PM. |

I am a bit worried about the astra, you start to get the feeling that its on its last legs and something painful is going to die. The beemer has had a good service life and its a BMW so the engine will keep going for ever.... the electrics might start to go though.
The thing is that I already have the astra, it's only needed a new alternator so far. Its not worth much but as i'm getting the bmw for a good price it kind of balances out. Last edited by Fade; 08-06-10 at 08:23 PM. |

Won't balance out when the bmw needs an alternator and whatever else. 200K you can start looking to be replacing some bits soon.
And you'll find BMW parts can be a tad expensive. Weekend car? Maybe Daily driver? I'd pass.

No to the BMW... my parents had a 1997 318i and it was about the age that 523 is now when it was costing far too much to keep going with constant (and often recurring) stupid problems.
