Default Unwanted loyalty cards

Tesco Clubcard, Nectar Card, Subway Club Card...

You're constantly being asked if you have one, and if not, do you want one, and if not, WHY NOT IT'S FREE WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU ARE YOU SICK OR MENTAL OR SOMETHING YOU'RE JUST THROWING MONEY AWAY. No, really, I just want to pay for my fuel and go, I don't want to sign up.

Subway has recently gotten a new scheme going, it's largely electronic. So they're pushing them really heavily.

While in Subway today already in a rush (and stuck behind some thick woman who was 'oh, is that ham? can I have that? Oh, are those gherkins? can I have those?' like she'd never seen friggin' food before) the manageress (who was showing rather a lot of boob) asked if I wanted one, I said no, she said why not and I told her ever since they suddenly cancelled the old Subway cards (which you collected stamps for) I don't really want one with them any more.

She was just and then said 'Oh... those are before my Subway time!'

IF I SAY NO, THAT'S IT. I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH MONEY I'M 'LOSING' I DON'T EFFING WANT IT. </rant>

*deep breath*

Heh. I do, for my shopping, now. Partly because both the Tescoeseses in Caerphilly are terrible, partly because if I don't have my stupid Clubcard with me I get the spiel of 'oh, well here's the number, if you bring it back in X days we can add your points to your card for you'.

I'm not unfriendly but all this corporate crap bugs me, I sometimes wish shop exchanges were just:
"Eight Ace."
"One forteh-nine."

I am sure that shops can track my expenditure simply by the debit card I use to pay with. Loyalty my ass. They are in business to make money, and figure they can make more money if they can work out who is buying what.

I would rather they were all honest and simply reduce cost instead of giving it against expenditure.

Actually there are no loyalty cards in Portugal and I miss them.

I used to like being able to every now and then get essential items for free in boots, especially if I was a bit short that month, before pay day.

The supermarket that has a loyalty card here works that you get the discount the following trip to the store.

I used to use tesco club card and their xmas scheme to save money in the run up to Xmas.

So whilst it may be annoying to be bothered by the stores each time you are in, I miss them and their benifits.

My Mrs is on a life-mission to collect Tesco points and Nectar points (although she's unable to tell me what use those are) -even if it means spending more to get them

I can't stand the idea of the loyalty cards and so I shop at Morrisons (closest thing to what a supermarket is back in Canada) when I can. I have a points card for their petrol stations, but it's the cheapest fuel around and the wife gets a small thrill when I hand her the £5 grocery voucher I get back all too often (damned 4x4). I figure I can live with them knowing how much diesel I buy and when if it earns us a free bottle of wine now and again.

Even as annoying is that when you present your nectar card, the till automatically gives you a bunch of discount vouchers on items you never buy, or on something you regularily buy but only on an amount way above normal spend.

Ha just reminded me my company asked me to collect shell points on the fuel I put in my car..as the director got some nice gifts from shell at the end of the year!

Ok so they pay for the car but the fuel is all mine out of my pocket..

subsequently the card has sat in my desk drawer.

I don't remember anyone in Loblaws being nearly as ugly as the folks in Morrisons but okay...

The grocery voucher at least is good, it's some beer. Better than the 2p off per litre fuel ones... you run the car almost dry, completely brim the tank, you've saved £2.25.
