Default Help with getting someone to do some exercise!

Sounds a bit strange, but I really need some help with this.

Basically my mum is 61 and well a bit lazy, she smokes and despite working in a doctors seems unable to give up, she also has high cholesterol.

I try not to nag her too much, but she is my mum and I want her to be as healthy as possible.

Add to that she is putting on a lot of weight and I am really concerned.

Personally I think that a little bit of exercise would really help, but how do I get her out and about? She never wants to come out with us (we are a relatively active family) so what else can I suggest.

She has a smokers cough and gets out of breath very easily.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Ta

Try and get her out for walks with you and the family..maybe down the seaside.. make a day of it
slowly get her used to being out. Her diet may also be a major cause of cholesterol and weight gain. I've tried to get my mum on some low cholesterol stuff and frequent checks makes my mum now more aware of her diet and the impact.

Know where you're coming from, and lost both parents to the dreaded weed.

Unfortunately i can't really help. I took the attitude that they were doing something they enjoyed, and who was I to tell them how to live their live's. I could of cajoled, and argued and nudged and pushed but I also didn't want to fall out with them. It hurt to take that line but I'm all for self determination.

Sorry.

You are welcome to borrow my 2 dogs ...............

On a serious note, do you know any of her friends, maybe they would be better enticing her out for social exercise as she may be more receptive to those. You know how us women love to natter all day with our mates.

The short answer is honestly you arent going to get her to do anything she doesnt want to do for herself.

If she is trying to give up smoking but finds it hard then I cant recomend highly enough the book "the easy way" by allen Carr, this book has a 90% sucess rate.
