Question pointy tail on curvy?

ok, im sure this has been asked before, but after a quick look through the forum i found nothing..
so the point is, i have a curvy, and want to fit her with a pointy end(cos its oh so sexy)..
possible?
and by"possible"i mean with minimal modifications, easy as taking the old one off, and fitting the new one, not changing subframe etc..
obviously atleast the back seat should go with the new tail, so im wondering if that woulld fit and lock..
ideas anyone?

I don't know, but I suspect the seats and panels are very unlikely to go on the curvy rear subframe in the manner you're looking for, with correct seat operation etc. Someone may know for sure.

If somebody could give us measurements for the front mounting points of the pointy rear subframe we would know if it's a close enough fit to consider attaching the entire rear end to the curvy frame. It might be easier to mod the new subframe to fit your bike than mod the old subframe to take the new panels.

Have you searched SVrider? Those guys seem to have tried just about everything.

Maybe preserve the curvy electronics but move them inside a pointy rear assembly (pointy subframe, pointy seat etc to fit each other sweet). You'd just need to wire the lights up again. That is of course if the subframe would fit.

Im interested too now. Subscribed.

I'll measure the curvy subframe mounting points later on tonight if some kind pointy owner wants to do the same.

(this must have been done before!)

Sorry guys, I forgot all about this thread.

The following measurements are approximate as I've now got the rear shock and subframe back on. I measured the distance between the inside of the mounting points (where the curvy subframe fits) and between the outsides (where the pointy fits). Hope that makes sense. Measurements are rough but should give us an idea if the two sub-frames are miles away or not.

Mounting points on the curvy frame as follows;

Bottom - 238mm inside 266mm outside
Top - 132mm inside 162mm outside
Centre of top hole to centre of bottom hole - 165mm

Anyone with a pointy want to get the ruler out?

Dont know if this'll help in anyway but it may give some clues to if it'll work?

It looks like the top and bottom mounting points on the curvy are almost vertical in relation to each other whereas on the pointy the top mounting point sits further forward on the bike.

Assuming it would fit in the mounting points, the pointy rear subframe would therefore sit far too low at the back so you would need to extend the bottom rail of the subframe to bring the rear up to an acceptable height. This isn't massively difficult - I've seen the rear jacked up to silly heights with some DIY brackets - but it's definitely not a straight-forward swap. K3 subframe might be better as I think it sits higher anyway.
