The wrong way round?

Ed's caravan thread reminded me. Seeing more and more of this this summer...



WHAT!?! Why is the bloody caravan towing the car??

If you can afford one of those 50 grand motorhomes, and an 8 grand Smart car to tow along behind it, then you can afford a bloody mahoosive caravan and a Range Rover to tow it with!

Why travel up the motorway driving a truck, then scoot round the place sighseeting in a Smart car when you arrive, when you could do your journey in a Range Rover, and still have a big comfortable Range Rover to do all your sighseeting in when you get there?

You have to pay road tax and insurance for the motorhome, and it only gets 15mpg, there's a good chance your wife won't have the confidence to drive it, and it's no bigger in living space than a big caravan.

It's just bloody stupid is it not?

Also, 50 grand, to buy something that you'll maybe keep for 5 years, before buying another and bending over whilst the salesperson rams your depreciation bill up your **** and takes another 50 grand off you.

All to holiday in the Lake District and listen to the rain fall on the roof!

50 grand is 25 years worth of all inclusive holidays for a family somewhere sunny!

Or you could buy a fairly decent large caravan to holiday in the Lake District for £5K, or a massive family tent for about £500.

I'd rather have one of these (5 metres x 8 metres)



throw it in the boot, and drive to my destination at 80mph.

yeah, but you need six people to put them up, mind you the 25 yrs all inc is a much better proposition.

Although I think that caravans should be encouraged. Between the hours of 2am and 4am, north of Inverness. Banned elsewhere.

BS! Those roads are the ones you don't want to meet a caravan on.

Speaking as a member of the motorhome brigade I can assure you they have their uses.
For starters when we went away with the kids (when they were smaller) they would either go to bed and sleep the whole way (and driving just about anywhere at night is much better than during the day) or watch TV/play video games so none of the "are we nearly there yet" syndrome.
Secondly it means you can stop and start at your convenience, no finding a proper site, winding legs up and down, or any other malarky. Pull over, go to bed, job done.
Thirdly if god forbid you do run into a traffic jam you get up, put the kettle on and have lunch. I've got a cooker, fridge shower and toilet all permanently up and running, no set up required.
Now being selfish I specifically bought mine for my motorcycling needs. This means it's got a bloody big garage at the back that will take a full sized sports bike if required. Alternatively i can put all my tools, stands, spare wheels etc in the garage and up to three bikes on the trailer behind.
Sure they're expensive, but hey, you only live once.

Aye, motorcyclicsts ought to be more considerate about throwing stones about other peoples predeliction for practically pointless road vehicles :P

I bet theres a motorhome forum where they moan about 180mph bikes weaving around them and why don't they get a car as it would be safer and keep you dry heh heh
