Hi everyone
I am going in for my big bike test at the end of next month, having ridden a YZF-R125 for 18 months on a CBT. So I whacked down a deposit on a K9 SV650 Sport, and am wondering what initial goodies I should buy with the bike. First thing on my list is the Scorpio SR-i900 - the pager will be a godsend as my garage is down the street, and I doubt an ordinary alarm would wake me. I have seen the systems which take a pre-paid SIM and text your phone, but it seems a bit clunky, and more expensive on the whole. Next up, I will be getting myself a ground anchor - yeah I'm going a bit OTT with security as my 125 was stolen last month! Has anyone got any experience with the BumpStop (http://www.bumpstop.co.uk/new/security.php)? I figure one of those will prevent the need for both a ground anchor and a set of paddock stands, as a set of stands alone can easily cost over £100. Beyond that, I'm thinking some crash bungs and other little bits. Any suggestions? I've also been told to ask the dealer for some freebies, but not sure what to ask for and how cheeky to be! I will be commuting on the bike, and already have a decent textile suit for all weather, and a pair of both winter and summer gloves. I've got a feeling I'm missing something but don't know what. Any advice is much appreciated |

The usual reply on here is a fender extender to protect the front cylinder when it is very wet. Lots of corrosion prevention spray if you are riding in all weathers. I also added a stainless bolt kit to my bike because the standard bolts rust and can be poor quality.
Comfort kit if you don't get on with the clip ons, see Matt's yokes for that. As for locks, I use a buried in concrete, ground anchor, two disk locks and a cheap D-Lock plus a Datatool alarm. Having had two bikes stolen in the past, I am very cautious any any thief that can get past this lot has either got super powers or my keys. In my view, better safe than sorry. Don't forget a good lock for when you leave the bike outside of work. I have heard of one bike taken away from a company car park and that for me is enough to cause worry. Hope that helps. |

The bumpstop is a great idea, I was thinking about getting one.
You will still need some fome of paddock stand as working on the rear wheel is difficult without one, same goes for the front. I've got an ABBA stand, its good because it doesn't take up much room when its off the bike, its very secure (unlike other normal paddock stands) plus you can use to work on front or rear. http://www.abbastands.co.uk/
