Angry So this is what my Road tax pays for

....... the DVLA to send me a letter saying they're processing the V5 I sent to them last week and I'll get the V5 in 5 days time.

Thanks, but I'd rather have the V5 sooner and I don't need this letter.

An email would have sufficed, I don't need you spending my money on a stamp to tell me this. Why

Rant over

Yes, it'll be service level agreement.

But if all my payslips & expenses payment advice can be sent via email, why can't this. DVLA need to get with the times and add a 'notify by email' box.

How many of these letters go out, its costing us a fortune

Even if they did start sending stuff by email though and cutting costs, we'd still pay the same and see no improvement So at least feel that you're getting your money's worth

At least they can't claim they never received it when they don't send it back.

Very true, but I've never had one of these letters in the past when I've sent the V5 off in the past

Maybe an acknowledgement of receipt introduced to sort out that very problem. I don't know how many times I've sent stuff to the DVLA for it to be "lost in the post". "Oh we never received it sir" BS!

I am pretty sure road tax is simply there to pay for people to have a job. The £205 I pay a year for my car is nothing compared to the amount of duty I pay on fuel. At least 90% of the cost of the tax disk is probably taken up on admin.

Still I suppose it's better than paying benefits for people who are out of work.
