Default twin pipes

looking at the standard road headers on my curvy, seems very complex and heavy, is there any reason either rules wise, or performance wise, why seperate headers may not run into seperate cans may not be used, one either side of the bike. thenks all rob

They need to be linked for correct scavenging to happen. There aren't many bikes out there that have true one into one pipes. Almost all are linked (except Harleys and harley type bikes because engine efficiency isn't high on their list of must do's

... and if you ever Picked up an aftermarket set of headers you'd realise just how ridiculoulsy light they are.

Yep, Most systems use some of the original headers anyway. The only restrictive part is inside the tube that connects the end can. There's a perforated lining tube in there that is omitted in full and 3/4 systems. The front header has no restriction but may benefit from being tapered or a slightly larger diameter if seeking absolute power.

The Leo Vice, Hindle systems are featherweight but cost a lot. There's a Jardine 3/4 systems for sale on here that uses the original front header.

If you go to a twin can set up on a race bike you have twice the weight and twice the cost if (when!) you bin it.

A lot of extra cost for no gain.

so if you were designing your own system, you must make sure that the headers are the same lenth, ( by using bends in the rear pipe) and the headers must be linked before flowing into a collector. ???

well, not quite as simple as that but in theory, yes. Where, how and size of connector along with diameter and length of pipes all make a difference to tuning. Leo Vince is supposed to be the best of the best so if you're going to copy, that's the one to choose.
