Default Question time.

Hi all,
I've just bought a k4 to race in the MRO minitwins next season and I have a few things I'm hoping you can help me out with.

The first question is regarding the air box, I know these are not allowed to be modified, but does this include the rubber snorkle on the intake? Or can this be removed?

I also have a question regarding front wheels, Does anybody know if the pre injection model wheels fit the later models?

Finally how far does fuel go in races?

Thank you very much, Carl Newbigging

Hey Carl,

1, You cannot remove or alter the Snorkel

2, The earlier wheels may fit but require different spacers. Its still undecided if the dics line up or not. I'll try this this week. The rears do fit with different std Pointy model spacers.
3, Have 5 litres in before a race and use 3 for the race. The 2 litres extra in the tank (make a dip stick) is so that you always have two litres in reserve in case of red flags or if (in the unusual event) someone asks for your fuel to be tested.

Cheers,
Carl

I have wheels for sale if you need any.

As for fuel, depending on how fast/length of race I used between 2.5 and 4 litres. You can work out your litres per lap on the practice day by putting and exact amount in and working it out by pulling the rest out when you get back in from the paddock. That way you never need run too much fuel. All extra weight! Oh and Go and invest in one of these. One of the best bits of paddock equipment Ive ever owned. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SYPHON-DIESEL-...item2c5856fb5a

Oh and good luck.

I'm on the one I bought for 50p four years ago at an autojumble and its still going strong. That means if I get say 5 years from one I can go...

470 years before I've spend what you have!

Now that's false economy!

Thanks guys,
I am looking for one more wheel, I just need a front.

Im also a little bewildered by the tyre choices, I started racing last year in the yamaha past masters and there was only really one set of tyres worth using.
Am I right in thinking that pirelli supercorsa pros, SC1 front and SC2 rear are the tyres used by the majority.

Cheers, Carl

Hey, if you think the one you have is better than 80 of mine then good on ya! Its your money.

But I've got better things to spend £46 on. A couple of Renthal Sprockets, race oil and filter, Two meetings petrol, two sets of sliders, a set of race pads, etc, etc.

We're lmited on tyres and you've got the pick of Pirelli Supercorsa pro's, Supercorsa Diablos, Power Ones, Dunlop 209 GP's and if you so fancy, Conti race attacks (not many do)

The Bridgestone BT003 only comes in street compound rear and the Dunlops made my bike handle like a bag of **** down the straights. (great in the corners though) so that leaves the Pirellis and power ones for me.

And its a lot easier to set the bike up for Pirellis than the Power ones. The power ones are great tyres mind but you have to run them at the correct pressures (19psi rear) and also tune the suspension to suit them. The V profile front is incredible but takes some getting used to. Tip in speed is unbelievable! And the rear can break away unexpectedly on left handers in the first two laps. Once its on lap 3 its great but before then you have to take it easy on the left side.

A lot of guys run the Older Super corsa pro's and having run both, I can't see the need to run the SC Diablo. The older tyres are excellent on the Sv and seem to suit it better.

I've also run a Metzeler racetec front and Pirelli SC Diablo rear combo which worked well but the older pre interact fronts work better on the SV.

Shame your name isn't tony! Then you could run touring tyres
