hi there, this is my first post ,I own a 98 sv650x and a 06 R1 ,my Sv is my beloved workhorse, but Im having serious battery issues, i recently replaced the tired old battery about 6 weeks back, but to my major annoyance and puzzlement the new ones just died, ive charged it back up 3 times over the last week only for it to die within 12 hours.Can anyone point towards a decent replacement, Ive read of YTZ batteries being better than OE ones and also that YTZ14 are a even better upgraded for heavy duty work.(read all the previous here on this forum)
I hope someone can help and thankyou in advance. |

+1 i had exactly the same issue, just make sure you check your charging rate first off just to make sure, but alot of people reccomend not fitting another sv reg/rec, alot of people fit a cbr one

thanks guys, i havent done a meter test yet, but when it does start (had it on charge all night in mates garage) the lights do brighten with revs (used to be my old check for this prob had reg/recs go on half a dozen hondas over the years.)It was on charge all night xmas eve only to struggle to start on xmas day for a five mile trip then be dead at midnight after standing for 5 hours.......its been on charge since 9am this morning and was started half an hour ago, will leave it over night then try in the morning, if the reg/rects failed would it drain the battery over night if its stood? If i do need to get a replacement which model CBR reg/rect is suitable? thanx again in advance.

well your lights may brighten when you rev it but that doesnt mean its all ok, it could be over charging when the bike is running and this will also kill the battery, theres loads of threads on the forum, well pretty much any will fit but i found the one i used fitted perfectly on the bolt holes i just had to bend the original mount a bit to make it fit behind the fairing,
i used a honda cbr 600 rr reg/rec but i managed to get one with the wiring all attached so just cut my original wiring an conected it with some new conectors, and also i did a direct wiring mod to the battery as i had quite alot of resistance in the wiring. what area are you in ? good link above for finding the fault |
