Default Exhaust and jetting question.

Hi Guys,

Will an aftermarket end can require a re-jet on my 1999 SV650s?

What about if I fit a k&n filter as well as an end can?

Thank you.

Can is fine
Changing filters may not be.

What sort of jetting is standard on a 99 650s? What would I need to increase the main jets to, in order to ensure I am not running lean.

Thanks,

Depends what filter you use, stock is 137.5. I am up somewhere around 165 with BMC race RS, tank risers, full M4, JHS stg2 cams.

BMC race maybe 157s, K+N race one 150 ish, K+N road one maybe stock jets will run OK.

BTW I am talking mikuni numbers not dynojet

Didn't realise there were 2 different types of K&N. Have you got links to both?

Thank you for your assistance.

Maybe I am thinking BMC, they make 3, street, race and race RS.
There are some other things like desnorkelling the K&N and making hole bigger on the BMC race.

Depends where you want to go, you want to tune for power or what?

If I went through all this again I would leave the engine as stock, probably just use full exhaust system. Maybe pointy cams. But first I would have got suspension; 8983 shock and GSXR forks. I know which made me faster!

BMC have 3 Road, Race and Race RS the road loooks like a standard filter but in red, the race has a yellow band 3/4 way down the filter and the race RS has a wide mouth desnorkel.

K+N do one filter but it had problems with it in the beginning being more restrictive than stock that has been rectified but its not supposed to be as good as the BMC race or Race RS, I think this is reflective of the price between the K+N and BMC.

I have been told by Spike Edwards that desnokelling the BMC Race causes issues as the snorkel is made of different plastics than the race RS and it flexes the filter but I have never tried it.

I ran a BMC Race with full akrapovic titanium on 160's and it was too rich and flooded the top end.

I'm due to put my SV on the dyno with BMC race RS, pointy cams and full akra next week I'm expecting around 150 / 155's but I'll let you know what it comes out as.

I also have a GSXR front end

my sv is a 99 one. ive got a scorpian can on it and a standerd filter. it ran a bit pants in the mid range and top end but mine has restrrictors in it.

i'd change the can n then put 10mm tank raisers in(or longer bolts with some washers) just to get the tank higher and more air flowing in. i did that and it runs really nice hope i helped
