Default Green Laning Routes and Groups

Helloooooo

Just out of interest, I dunno if it is just the way it is or if there is some reason for it but there isnt alot of help on the net about good lanes or routes.

People either dont like to share the info or they charge to join a group or for advice on it

Wondered why that was?

I am a novice getting into it, dont really want to join a big group just yet just want to see how i feel with it and want a local route near me that isnt techinically hard

Anyone know anything about this stuff?

Hey

Just getting into it myself so I know where you're coming from. Greenlaning is a sensitive issue with a lot of people, lots of court actions going back and forth with people trying to ban it. Don't let that put you off though. I joined the TRF mainly to pick their brains and get some riding buddies, but also to make sure I was doing it legally. Went to my 1st meeting on tuesday night and theyre a really friendly helpful lot (well the Lancs group is anyway ) my advice would be to find your local group, go down to their next meeting and listen/ask questions. They wont (or shouldnt) pressure you to join and the lancs lot said they'd take people out for a ride or 2, and then after that they'd want you to become a member to carry on riding with them. Which I think is fair enough

Website wise check out

http://www.trailwise.org.uk/gmaps/gmap.htm to find lanes (most of the time its up to date )

http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm

http://www.dorsetforyou.com/386537 your local council holds the definitive map, showing all the legal routes and any updated TROs (traffic regulation order = no fun )

There are loads of green lanes around, you dont have to join a group.
Me and Ralph do a fair few of them, the OS maps show them all.

Sometimes local councils keep very good records and notify about seasonal closures etc.
Be respectful while riding them, close gates if any, its likely you will come across horses, walkers etc, slow down, say hello to them, it all helps break down the barriers.
