I hate them with a passion
![]() Just been on the phone to swinton insurance, trying to sort a multi bike policy for my sprint and DRZ. Ive had quotes with a few companies and all of them come out more expensive than 2 seperate policies. I cant use my 2 years NCD on the other policy so i thought it would be better to get a multi bike policy, crock of s**t. Anyway, swinton wanted £549 renewal, my same details and cover on go compare, bennetts wanted £343, swinton on that list was £412 ![]() I called them, told the woman about same quote with them was £412, instantly told me they could match that, why didnt they just offer that to start with ? Cos they try it on it first the c**ts. After getting a quote off them for both bikes, initially they said £611, i said sorry im gonna get other quotes, it came down to £472 with excess protection insurance and the DRZ is now fully comp instead of TPFT. Still bloody high imo for a 40 year bloke who only rides for pleasure for less than than 6k miles a year, decent area with both bikes garaged etc. Rant paused for now... |

Minor derail, but I had british gas phone me up yesterday, extolling the virtues of their service contracts. As he finished his pitch and gave me the price (in £ per week), I had the website open. I mentioned I could beat his price with their own website, without even being a 'valued customer'. He immediately beat that price - so the the same message as you have made - give me the proper f***ing price in the first place

robbing chancers-never take the first deal offered on anything, and always take a wedge off your cheapest price when going back to the original company.

Yeah, it really boils my carrotts.
All this crap, my supervisor has just said i can knock another 15% off, FFS they are getting like conservatory and PVC gutter companies. Its never about the fair price its about how much they can get away with. Ive just costed a job for some building work in a large ish house, including an ensuite re-fit, priced it low as i wanted the work. Even though id worked for the woman before (now dealing with her new bloke, in his 60's btw) he called me and said he needed a discount, so a £5k job which was cheap anyway, now ive offered £150 even though i didnt wanna as i know its tight already. Shouldve done what the insurance companies do, gone in at £7k then knocked a grand off ![]() |

Try giving Express insurance a phone next time Phil. I haven't done a renewal with the Daytona yet, but I didn't pay much to upgrade from the SV/XT multi-bike, to the Daytona/XT multi-bike. I think I'm now paying in the region of £200.
You've only had your license a couple of years, and I will have 6 years no claims for this years renewal in May, but you are 4 or 5 years older than me, so you shouldn't be paying more than double. My insurance didn't change much when I moved away from Solihull, I think they dropped the premium by about a tenner. I have always had the feeling that they were looking after me on the phone and trying their best to get the price I was looking for, and not just trying to screw me for every penny, especially since they always mention on the phone how long you have been a customer "oh, you've been renewing with us for 5 years, we should be able to get you a really good rate", and I have no loyalty when it comes to insurance, they have always just been the cheapest for me, and it's always been with Equity Red Star too. I think the brokers look after the customers a bit better TBH. I don't really know how these things work behind the scenes, but I think they are just interested in getting you the best price, so they get a sale and their commission, not in bumping up the price of the actual premium as that is not being provided by them.
