Default Carbs need attention?

Hi all

Did it again on the way into work today on the bike.

Seems if I hold the bike at steady revs for a short amount of time in 2nd, when I open up it splutters for a second before accelerating. Not all the time either, probably happened 4-5 times in the last 2-3 rides.

Doesnt seem to happen in other gears but I dont think it's particularly 2nd gear specific. I tend to not really sit at a steady speed much in my journey to work. I can quite happily say it doesnt do it in 5th or 6th though.

Is this a sign my carbs may need some love? Pulls and peforms well otherwise.

Yes. Sounds like your cable and/or plungers are on their way out.

I had both replaced last year (thank you Spannerman) and it was a big help. If it gets too bad the choke may not come off, leaving you with a screaming bike at every lights. Don't want to go through that again!

The high idle is annoying but it's the dumping of excess fuel into the engine that makes it run like cr*p

Apart from the slight 1 second hesitation its fine though, all the way to redline in all gears. Just holding it at steady revs is has a little hiccup (that's actually what it feels like it's doing lol).

I would have thought a stuck plunger would make it run too rich all the time? Unless it was a bit lean to begin with, running standard jets and K&N + slip on can...?

perhaps its some **** in the carbs try lifting the tank up warming the bike up reving it nearly to red line and covering the air intake holding the throttle fully open and basicly killing it it might pull whatever crap is in there through if it is that obviously doing this floods the engine so leve it for about a min then start it it will take some starting so make sure your battery isnt going to die if its been left over the winter but try this before taking the carbs of as this is easy to do takes about 10 mins and diagnoses a problem
