Hope someone can help
I just went to start my 2000 sv650 and it won't even try to turn over. I haven't used it for 10 days or so, but worked fine last time out. The clutch cable seems alot looser than last time, all ignition lights work ok, its out of gear, but it just clicks when you try to start it. One thing i noticed since trying to start it is occasional dripping from the clutch, i don't think this has happened before! Any ideas? It hasn't been dropped, ive tried it with the sidestand up, checked its out of gear, kill switch off etc Thanks ben |

Sorry I am not that mechanically minded, can it still be a battery problem even though all the lights etc work?

Yeh cos just because its got enough juice to light up the dash, it doesn't mean it has the power needed to turn it over. I had the same with my 2000 curvy, lights and stuff were fine but battery needed charged.

definately sounds battery related. the lights use very little power but the starter motor uses a huge chunk.
the clicking you hear is the solenoid trying to get the motor going. or it might be the fuel pump trying to prime or something else, im sure a spannering expert could tell you what it is. but generally the clicking is a battery sign |

Thanks for the help, it is the battery, so am getting it replaced tomorrow.
A local motorbike mechanic who saw it is charging me £50 for the battery and £120 for a new rectifier, as he reckons thats faulty also. This sound right? |

Do a search on the fourm, that descibes how to test the reg/rec to find out if it is that first! If you don't have a multi meter loan one from some, I don't think that a basic one is too much money.
Have you charged the battery up first? |
