Ok, my Firefox crashed so I had to upgrade to the new version.
Now the one outstanding feature of Firefox was that you just typed what you wanted into the address bar and it would take you there. Say you wanted the BBC site you just types "BBC" and you got the home page. Now on the new version it's infected (its the only word to use) with "AVG search" which now makes you go through that. I've googles it and followed every lead I can find on how to turn this Bloody AVG search off and I've even deleted AVG from my computer entirely, dissabled all add ons, started Firefox in safe node and it's *still* doing it. How the hell do you disable AVG search with Firefox 4.0? Of course, I phoned the AVG free helpline as was told I'd have to pay to find out how to do it (how is that different from the ransom viruses thats its supposed to be preventing?) Please help! It was the only good thing about Firefox and now its gone! C |

Should be on add/remove programs on the control panel, find it and click remove.

start firefox then go to tools / options and in the home page put this in http://www.google.com/ncr or just http://www.google.co.uk also up in the right hand corner next to the address bar there is another box right next to the google logo there is a small downward pointing triangle. click this and change to your favourite search engine.

Top tip, never select typical installation, it will usually install loads of other guff you don't want. Always select custom installation, even if it does say it's for advanced users if you just select all the default options the installation will be the same.
This should let you disable avg tho http://www.ehow.com/how_4455931_disa...r-firefox.html

Yep, done those, still the same...
There's no add on, add ons are all disabled anyway, just in case, Firefox is in safe mode. No AVG installed. I've searched the entire compute rnad deleted any file with AVG in it. anything you type in the address bar end up as the bloody AVG search instead of going there directly like it used to. So if i put AVG in the google box, it goes to google search and finds the usual suspects. if I type "google" into the address bar, it used to go straight to Google.com and display the page without giving you options. Now I get the poxy AVG search instead. Its doing my head in! I'm going to uninstall Firefox and try that. ![]() |
