Default Rear brake cailper seized.

Hi, I went to replace my brake pads today, the fronts weren't too much bother but the rear calliper is shagged. The pins are completely stuck, so we split the calliper and discovered that the pistons are also completely seized. managed to move them back with some serious brute force but it seems that the calliper needs replacing.

Looked on ebay and there seem to be several bandit callipers which look identical, but there for 1200's so I'd be suprised if they actually are the same.

Anyone know if they are the same callipers. If not does anyone know where I can get a used calliper URGENTLY. The bike is now off the road and I hate the train.

Many thanks.

You don't need to replace the caliper just rebuild it with new seals.

Not sure about the bandit caliper but I think the Hayabusa and SRAD rear calipers are the same

Cool. So what would I actually need to buy then? Would the revuild kit on Wemoto be all I need?

It took a hammer to move the pistons and it just seems that new seals is way to simple

Cheers

You'll need to get the pistons out to change the seals though, if your caliper is still attached to the bike you should be able to pump them out using the brake system. If the pistons are particularly bad you may also need to replace them as well

K thanks mate. We got the calliper off the bike. Not sure what the pistons are like as it was more or less dark by the time we gave up trying. If the pistons are in ok shape, will that kit be all I need then?

One more question. If a calliper takes the same pads is it safe to assume it is the same calliper. <The bandit 1200 takes the same pads as the SV.

Just that if I need new pistons and the seals kit, it is going to work out cheaper to get a used calliper. There are few bandit ones on ebay but none specifically for the SV.
