Thumbs up Insurance Company Recommendations - good and bad?

Hello all !

I thought it would be a good idea to help people like me who are new to biking about good an bad insurance companies as im due to renew mine and have no idea which to go with.

So please list your/a company and state weather its good or bad - with a "Short" reason why.

DialDirect (Good) - Can't fault the cover but never had to test them.

Express Insurance, (Underswritten with Equity Redstar) - Great
The price was very good compeared to others, the cover includes pretty much every option but again I've never had to call them for anything other than a renewal.

OK, if that's the criteria, Express Insurance are good too, I can't fault the certificate they send me every year either.

As for every other insurance company, they are all crap because they quoted me more money than Express Insurance.

Not sure what you'll achieve with this list TBH. You only need one customer on this forum to have had a bad experience, or to have dealt with it badly themselves, and you'll have that insurance company on the list as a bad one. Then you could have somebody who's had a good experience, with a generally bad insurer.

As with your current insurer, there's no way you are going to know until you have to claim off them. Go with the cheapest quote, or the quote with the best cover included at the best price for that cover.

Are we talking insurance companies... or insurance brokers?

Companies = RSA, Equity Red Star, Aviva

Brokers = Express, MCE, Carol Nash

I've never had to test the actual performance of an insurance company... I've tried quite a few brokers though.

Carol Nash - Expensive, but worth the extra money as long as it's not double. Their customer services is excelent, and you get through to speak to someone straight away. They get your information right first time.

Express - You can be on hold for ages, but they seem to employee bikers that actually have some knowledge. Seem helpful enough, I just hate being on hold for ages. I'm with express this year.

MCE - Utter garbage, they sell you a policy and make tons of mistakes... They sold me a policy and took my money. When I received the document they had put down that my bike is alarmed, which it isnt... the can't insure me without an alarm. Then they have the cheek to charge me £30 to cancel. Which I'm currently persuing... infact I've had no money back from them yet.

The idea was just to create a general feeling as you say one bad word does not make them a bad company and vice versa,

but if after a few posts you start getting a tread that company A is 100 pound cheaper but generally bad then you may pay the extra and go with company B which 10 people on here have been with had good comunication and response times.

the sole reason was like i am now im trying to get insurance on my bike have no idea what some of the companys are but if there are 5 all close in price but 1-2 companys have good recomendations it may well help me not get stung. where as if i read one comment from one person on the WWW. it may put me off a generally decent company ?

Hope that makes sence, if this seems a pointless idea then so be it, was only a suggestion....

Lexham Brokers- Spot on had two polices through them, until last year when they couldn't compete with the quotes I got from other brokers with the same underwriter (AXA)

Swintons- Seem good so far, but have heard a couple of horror stories about their car polices.

The worst one I've came across is IAM Adelaide- Worst policy and the most expensive price. It was £50 more than the year previous (I had no NCB and paid less than there quote), claimed to match: Rubbish, said the price and T&C's of the policy with Swintons and said they couldn't match.

Swinton are crap. No interest in even trying to match renewal quotes, when I had an off they didn't even bother informing my underwriter, arranging for the repairs or doing anything except sending me a form to fill in. When BLD (who were eventualyl put in charge of handling repairs) discovered this they had to rush around, saying that while it obviously wasn't my fault I had to ensure I didn't drag things out or cause undue cost to the other side.
