That is a British Spider, although it carries venom, it is totally harmless, but if handled badly it can nip you. If it is really big, it is probably a female. Males are usually smaller and have small globular ends to the pedipalps. Most likely a species of Wolf Spider or sheet web spider. Beautiful animal, we have several very large ones in our garage.

Well I agree that it is a female , I ruled out Wolf Spider early on though due to the arrangement of the legs , can`t remember why but I think Wolf Spiders have 2 arranged front pairs .... not sure on this . I`ve done a bot more trawling and it is very very similar to
Tegenaria gigantea ![]() Or the "Cobweb" Spider I did actually find a picture that was very close in colour and markings to the original post |
