I really can't see that being stable enough to support any sort of weight. Looks like any slight shift would tilt it straight out of the sky!

Given the frequency with which people run out of fuel on normal bikes, I'm not sure this is wise.
The rotors would surely need to be higher than the rider to make it stable? I'm not convinced on the benefits of flying cars/bikes/armchairs, they seem a cool idea but unless it is a normal sized vehicle it still requires the space and facilities of a plane or small helicopter anyway.

The dangers of getting air travel to be "personal" always seems ludicrous to me, we have enough problems when we give the idiots cars and 2 dimensions to move in, surely adding a third isn't going to help matters! "And in other news, a flying car ended up in a tree today after trying to drive by the tomtom stuck to his windscreen"

I'd stick with my two wheels and the ease, although, I wonder if this is what the TT needs to be on to stop the inane comments that the helicopters can't keep up with the bikes!

It's Monday, cynicism is my coping method

concept fine, in practice......i dont think so! there has been loads of "hover" machines tried and tested, the main problem with them, is as tweakedtay said, not being stable enough.

The US army spent big bucks on personal combat hover platforms for special forces back in the 60's i think it was (maybe 70's) but it just didn't work.

Also there is an episode of mythbusters when they try to make a similar device, but the plans were to stand in it, not sit on it, but again, the downforce from the props was not enough to give enough lift, and the lack of a tail made stability a large factor!

Pretty sure you're talking about the AvroCar. Canadian/American design that failed miserably.... Looked like a UFO saucer with a hugh fan blade in the middle. It never got off the ground and was canceled way too early, like all of Avro Canada's designs (minus the Canuck....yes we named a jet that...) See Avro Arrow for more Canadian rage quitting.

There would never be any real control on something like that, it's easy to get something to hover in a spot when it's tied down.

I wouldn't fanyc going over the bars much either lol
