Question "snicking" noise...?

As above really. I've started to notice a snicking (best word i can come up with) noise coming from down by the oil filter / starter motor area. Sounds like a little bit of plastic constantly being flicked by some moving component... It's constantly there now from start regardless of gear, clutch engagement, movement or otherwise and goes with engine revs. It's not alarmingly loud but dammit, it wasn't there a week ago !

Something to do with the starter motor disengagement bits? My first thought anyway... but then, I do know squat.

Hmmm, if a picture is worth a thousand words, what's a sound clip worth? More than the dross above, apparently

Have you rules out a lazy cam chain tensioner? Valve clearances? I'm no expert - just picked up this from the other 'noise' threads that I read when wondering if my enginge noise was normal.

Yes, some details would have helped! It's an '02 svs, only done 4k so I'm guessing that rules out some of the higher mileage issues. Last service was 300mi ago just before I got the bike, looking at the documents it's only ever had consumables.

Its that dog you ran over.

Sure its from the started motor, have you had yer head next to it? Are you hearing it as you sit on the bike? If so, you sure its not just fuel being spat up the carbs? That makes that kinda noise

You sure it wasn't there a week ago? You are now bonding with your bike, and you tend to pick up on things you swear weren't there before.....such as the SV tick.....which is in each and every one of them

You might just be right diz, maybe i'm just getting more in tune to what it actually sounds like... I can hear it as I'm sat on the bike - my brain is starting to cut through that lovely exhaust note and find other details in the sound

Maybe I should be a bit more pragmatic Plan; use the old screwdriver stethoscope technique to find where he noise is coming from, then find someone close by with an SV and have a listen to theirs. And stop running over strays.
