I am shopping for an air filter that flows a more air than stock.
Does anyone have an experience with the BMC Street vs a K&N? I don't really want to go with the BMC Race and sacrifice long term engine life. I have used K&N several times in the past, but have no experience with BMC. Thanks! |

hello there, i have a k & n in mine in i notice a big difference when i first put that in, with the BMC race filter u would probably need to get the bike re-jetted depending if u have an after market zorst on there or not, and about the engine life i dont think that would be harmed since provideing you have the correct fuel / air mix you will see a drammatic performance increace and a smoother ride! but im sure some of the sv experts on here will correct me if im wrong lol.

As for the BMC Race filter, affecting engine life, from what I understand it is because the filter is less dense, allowing more air to flow thru, at the cost of not stopping as many dirt particles as the OEM or regular BMC. Basically, with a Race bike, this is not an issue since the engines get rebuilt often. |

The BMC runs about $10-$15 more than the K&N, so unless I hear good things about the BMC, I will stick with K&N. |

I know you can run either the Street or Race BMC on the road, but the Race one is not recommended for street use because it filters less garbage, hence the improved flow. I know many people run the Race on the street, but I am more considerate of the long term health of my engine.
Again, I appreciate the input. |

i know alot of people with the bmc race filters, and they do come highly recomended but at the end of the day its not called BMC RACE filter for nothing lol, i used K&N's on my previouse bikes and i'm loyal to them lol, but the BMC filter with a re-map sounds like a plan, more pricey though.
