Yes.

What do you want to know?

Wife says you'll be getting a slap if she ever meets you

I know you're only joking so this reply isn't aimed at you, but it is a common misconception, so I'm going to type it anyway.

From someone who used to think teaching was a holiday, I can vouch for the fact that teaching is bloody hard work!

In most jobs there's some escape when you need it, go have a fag, or make a cup of tea, tap at your keyboard and pretend to be busy when your actually surfing the web or playing solitaire. Go a bit slower than normal because you have a hangover.

Not with teaching, 30 teenagers pile in at 8:30 am for registration, and it's lights, camera, action for an hour at a time, with 3 breaks a day. Loose your presence of mind for a second and today's kids will spot it and take immediate advantage. You need to be on top of the class, awake, energetic, on the ball, thinking quicker than they are, and don't loose your voice!

During those 3 breaks they end up answering emails or printing/photocopying.

Most jobs you know what time you start and finish, teaching can keep you back while you have departmental or crisis meetings, or with phoning parents to explain why their kids are in detention.

Then when you do get home, you are expected to plan lessons and mark books.

My wife may have 6 weeks holiday coming up, but as a wife, a mother and a teacher, she works, no joking, 16 hours a day, and earns 22 grand a year.

It's no surprise so many teachers are bachelors or spinsters, it takes over your life.

Thank you Ralph. I don't always agree with you but you have expressed very clearly what a teacher's day is, and from an 'outsiders' perspective, if I may say so.

Anyone want to call us babysitters?

Everything nowadays is interactive whiteboard or PowerPoint.

I do a lot of presentations to customers and speaking/presentations at industry events.

I couldn't plan and deliver 6 x 1 hour presentations per day, never mind to an audience that didn't want to listen and were intent on causing havoc.

I have spent maybe 6 hours today, thinking about, creating PowerPoint slides, and preparing content for a 2 hour presentation tomorrow.
