green dot scheme

i dont know how many of the orgsters have heard of the GREEN DOT SCHEME, to explain you stick a little green dot on the right hand side of your helmet or visor (helmet safe) then fill a small card in with your information,name etc this then goes in the lining of your helmet then if your are unfortunate enough to have an accident the ambulance service will see the dot they know all about the scheme and know where the card is if you are not in any state to give them any information

not sure i'd want some untrained person who sees the dot and thinks "i know what this means, let me look for his details" and rips my helmet off and cause even more extensive damage to a more than likely delicate situation.

nice idea but the potential for unintended harm is too great.

no greater than any untrained person attending a medical emergency.

Its a good idea but my experience is the ambulance crews don't have time to check or worry about those things untill much later in the proceedings, or If I am honest bother to check at all.

Wifey and I both have them - the girl selling clothing and helmets in our local Suzy/Ducati dealership tries to make sure you don't leave the shop without one (although, obviously, you don't have to stick it on if you don't want to). I think, on balance, it's a good idea. The overkeen amateur is already going to have removed half your head trying to get the helmet off in order to check your airway anyway, regardless of the green dot, so I don't see that as an additional danger really.

I have one, and think its a good idea. But then I have a neurological condition and this would be my best chance of bringing it to their attention if I was unconscious!!

I have one - and I think whilst there are some "overly enthusiastic" members of the public out there, I would like to believe that most members of the public wouldn't try and remove a helmet. (Note-most, not all - I am sure it happens).

Although if you don't have any medical conditions, it doesn't offer much more than what you keep in your wallet - ie your driving licence...

Yeh, this tends to be the reason I didn't bother sticking mine on.

That and the fact that there is a high chance you are gonna scrape your head along the road.....a little paper sticker isn't gonna survive that....lol!

From someone who attends these things, I would say the best thing is to carry a card in a jacket pocket, an inside pocket or something, as thats gonna be cut off, and then whilst ambulance crew are fixing you, I'm looking in your pockets for ID.

admittedly somewhat out of date (left in the late 90's) but 12 years frontline experience with the ambulance service showed there are only two places where this sort of thing is found quickly.

Bear in mind the crew will have a lot to do on arrival and if you are unconscious a primary check will cover airway & pulse, medic alert around wrist or neck wil be found, after that it's normal to look for a wallet so a card in there is a good idea as is an ICE entry on your phone.

Anything else is better than nothing but will only be found later on when they have dealt with the main priorities.

I thought it was a good idea initially, but then, as others have pointed out, there are some obvious flaws.

I just keep everything I need in my wallet which is kept in the inside pocket of my leathers.

meh - each to their own, but I like it.

Personally I tend not to have my wallet on me whilst riding because it digs in, so its either in my tank bag or under the seat. So in an accident it will end up thrown miles away, or being locked somewhere no one can get it.

I also have a number lock on my phone, so the Ambo's are not getting in there.

I have a green dot, and a set of good old fashioned dog tags. If they're cutting my shirt off they are certainly going to see those.
