A colleague of mine was in a car accident last night, and luckily he is ok but the dude who decided to crash into him was a young boy with a suped up VW polo
![]() My colleague then said I want your details which he gave, but then came out with the line my excess is £1000, and can we not go through the insurance company - I'll pay for the damages as I work for a panel beaters. Question is? Do you ring your insurance and still file the accident or see if this dude come through with his offer. The issue is if he's stalling, can you then report the accident to the insurance company days later? thanks in advance. |

Unless they come up with cash on the spot I would avoid this sort of deal.Do you have name and address and all relevant details of the other party? If so I would tell them you want cash today.Any problems report the incident immediately

I wouldn't give a stuff how much their excess is, or their whinging they can't afford the insurance route.
Do it the right way, file the accident. Serves the 'boy' right, should drive more carefully!

He doesnt have to pay his excess for you to claim.. excess is only paid in the event of the policy holder claiming from his insurance.. as such his comment is null and void.
Drive like a tit and crash.. excpect to pay the price Glad yoru mates ok.. but seconded on reporting.. no questions. |

Yes, he has the dudes name and address details, hmmm cash on the spot is a good call...but my colleague was going to give the dude a chance but I said the situation could turn round and bite you rearend if he doesn't claim.
I agree with you all in that he should report the accident and let the insurers deal with it all. Thank you once again for your quick responses and opinions. |

i had a women in a brand new Audi crash into me and offered her the opportunity to pay me cash for the repairs. I spent an afternoon getting repair quotes and sent her the quotes in the post. Damage came to £450. She decided that we should go through the insurance in the end.
BUT She decided to tell her insurance company that she ran into the back of me at traffic lights BUT the damage caused to my car was in fact already there before she ran into the back of me? This caused major delays and the claim took a year to settle due to this stupid woman trying to get out of the claim using this crazy method. In the end i got payed out for the damage, but you have to realize that 9 out of 10 people these days seem to be complete ****s when it comes to stuff like this. Still cant believe that i spent my time/effort/money trying to save this woman's no claims bonus and she stabbed me in the back. |

Likewise, I had a minor tap that was entirely my fault at a roundabout. The guy was in an SUV so his bumper quite happily dented my front fender in but there wasn't a mark on it. Noting this, we agreed for him to go get some quotes (just in case a crumple zone had bent out of our view) and not to involve insurance.
Two days later, him not returning my calls, my insurer calls me saying he's reported it. I blame his wife. |
