Just got the kids tidying up the garden and they found a big frog and what I think is a newt and my 6 year old thinks is a lizard...just so I can give him the fact straight...this is a newt right?

If you're in the UK that's a newt. Salamanders don't occur in the UK, have to be on the European mainland for them.... Which newt...? not helped by it not being breeding season and nothing in the images to give scale. It's not a Great Crested. So it's either a palmate or smooth newt.

Looking at that vid I'd say female smooth newt is what I had in the garden, no ponds anywhere round here either but we always have frogs too!
