Default Servicing costs.

I'm gutted.. First service due and as the dealer I bought the bike from is about 80 miles away its hardly practical, so I called TWO Suzuki dealers within about 20 miles (1 is 5 miles from my house) both quoted me £120 and £140 respectively..

This is for the very first service, so not much to be done..
I rang the dealer who I bought it from, £65.

I asked why the difference and its all down to not buying the bike from the other dealers, in fact the dealer I bought my bike from (DK in Newc under Lyme) said they only charge £85 for peeps who aint bought the bike from them, apparently theyve heard of folks being charged upward of £200 for the first service!!!!

I'm gunna try a local mechanic as long as he uses suzuki parts he can stamp my service book..
I can't believe how cheeky the dealers are!!!

Are you talking about the 600 mile service or the 3500 mile service?

First service is the same as the 4000m service if done correctly. It is NOT just an oil and filter change and is an important service.

Dealers charge for their time because they are unable to work for free, that may come as a shock but sadly its true.

Normally we charge parts only if bike purchased from us unless the deal specified otherwise or the charge same as the 4000m service if not.

I agree, however that doesn't explain the difference between the dealerships.

Whyis 80 miles not practical. Its an hour of your time. Make sure they have a loan bike that you can go out and hoon on for a couple of hours and job done. As racer says, its an important service as they check the whole bike over, or at least should do, making sure that everything is bedded in correctly.

Difference will more than likely be labour rates.

If your ever not sure about why they are different call and ask them what it includes and get them to email a breakdown!.

When you ask for a quote get a breakdown, most places will email it to you then you can see exactly what your getting. Ask them whats involved etc. If they cant answer those simple questions and send you a breakdown then use someone else. If they can it shows at least their service dept is switched on..does help!.

If you go over the 600m by a few 100miles it wont matter, not everyone can get the service done bang on the 600m mark. Most important is that when it is done its done correctly.

I'm over it by about 70 miles already and have to do another 200 or so this week to work and back so I'm sort of limited...
Thanks for the advice folks, I'm just annoyed at the variation in cost just because I didnt buy the bike from them.. Its a bit silly IMO..

Maybe you should advise them if they can match the price of the dealer you bought the bike from, they're more likely to get repeat work from you in the future?
