UPDATE:
have done a oil & filter change and also chain adjustment. re adjusted the clutch cable at both ends and still no change but now i have noticed that the push rod that pokes out is moving when the clutch is in and out and it dose not move all the time just when ever it feels like it. after cleaning it off i think it is bent. .................................................. .............. The last two weeks or so when ridding my 2002 curvy, The clutch is not fully disengaging. So ridding along in first pull the clutch in and the bike still moves along. Only way i can describe it is if you were in a car pulled off then removed your feet from the clutch and the loud pedal and just let the car move along on tic over. i have adjusted the clutch cable at the lever & engine end. Which made no difference what so ever. I have also played with the clutch release screw. Which has changed nothing. I have also cleaned all the crap out from around the front sprocket and also cleaned the push rod. I also removed the whole clutch release assembly and cleaned and re-greased it. but still I can get the clutch to completely cut the drive. I have no problems changing gear. The bike has not had an oil change in over a year. Bad I know but I just haven’t had time. Also a new clutch cable about 8 – 12 months ago. Have looked over cable and it seems fine and well greased. But it was not a OEM Suzuki one I don’t think. But I can take up the slack in it. The only outcome I can think of now is the push rod is bent,(is this a common problem) or I need new clutch plates as these ones could be worn. also why is there a RH & LH push rod? Last resort is taking it to a bike garage bye bye ££££ Please shower me with advice, as need the bike working asap. cheers nicky s

I know this sounds daft, but trust me,
Oil level and chain adjustment seem to have effects on the clutch drag. check both. I have also experienced wear on the clutch plates/basket agin causing the clutch to drag rather than disengage.

Depends on how often you use the bike. Could be plates sticking together, maybe.
I'm having a problem with mine at the moment as it's hardly being used. When I pull it out of the shed, start her up then engage 1st gear, the bike lunges forward as iff the clutch hasn't been engaged. It then, on re starting, tries to pull forwards, but is ok after that initial stall. Could be worth taking your clutch apart, clean the plates, treat her to new oil, adjust everything up & see how it goes

I didnt listen to this piece of advice but i advise you to. Dont buy anything other than Suzuki own brend clutch plates. EBC ones warp or drag. I have all manner of issues with my clutch a while back, and it turned out to be worn plates, i replaced them with EBC ones and had nightmares, changing everything including the basket, bearings etc. I managed to get hold of a secondhand clutch assebly whole including Suzuki plates. Changed just the plates (not steels(done them later)) and the clutch was fine and dandy.
Now Nicky, not sure if you do a lot of Clutch up wheelies? This can notch the clutch basket quite badly and this can cause the clutch to drag as well. So, get yourself a new set of plates, and if the steels are very blue, a new set of them as well. Oh, and dont bother changing the springs for any heavy duty ones. They make no differeence just make your clutch heavy. |
