Just received a nice letter from Wandsworth Council... a £120 penalty charge notice for filtering through stationary traffic at 8am on Queenstown Road.
WTF??? ![]() The letter states that the following alleged traffic contravention was committed at 7:50am: "38L failing to comply with a sign indicating that vehicular traffic must pass to the specified side of the sign. The alleged contravention was noted at the time by camera operator 001 who was observing real time pictures from the roadside camera at the time stated. This alleged contravention is supported by recorded evidence." I'm obviously going to appeal, as I was on my bike filtering through a long line of stationary cars. Has anyone else had any success in appealing against these stupid fines? |

From the sounds of it, you went the wrong side of a traffic island. Unlucky to get caught by a live camera operator.
PePiPoo is good for the legal stuff, but if you were the wrong side of an island then I don't think you have much defence. Sorry. |

I'd ask to go and view the video evidence to see what they have caught you doing. If you have done something plainly illegal and there's video evidence to support it, you'd best just pay up.
Fine seems steep though, I'd have expected 60 quid. |

It was a traffic island in the middle of Queenstown Road, see here:
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/213325 It is a £120 fine that is reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. I would have thought that rule 129 of the highway code would have applied, as the traffic was not moving: "You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less." It was not a dangerous manouvre as there was no oncoming traffic. |

Lots of folk get done for speeding when the speed they were doing was not dangerous. Just accept that you did something cheeky and got caught. |
