What happened to insurance - £1300 for a Citroen C3?

Ok my renewal is £550 which is £200 more than last year, but no matter where I go for a quote it gets worse with the cheapest alternative quote being £1300, thats with no istallments available.

I really don't know how the younger drivers can afford to stay on the road these days.

Basically whats happened is insurers have taken on way too much high risk new business over the years and with al the odgy PI claims going through they have realised that they cannot afford to cover a lot of peeps so they are pricing people out of the market !!

If the ambulance-chasing PI scammers can be legislated away it would help a lot. But don't hold your breath.

Levo - if you don't mind me asking, how old are you? £550 is not that bad these days unless you're as old as me...

My daughter will be looking for lessons in less than four years. Goodness only knows how she will be able to afford run a car though, especially as she has no concept of the word "savings".

I agree that £550 is pretty good, but usually new quotes are within a hundred pound of my renewal but nobody ever beats the swift cover renewal. Today the lowest quote was £1300 but the majority above £2000.

I'm 34 with 7 years no claims but got my 22yr old gf as named driver so expected around £500, its every other companies quotes that took me by surprise. If my gf had her own car it'd cost us thousands.

Young drivers must have to spend a ridiculously large amount of their wages just for a car to be legal, one of the few perks of getting older I suppose.

That's the reason I sold my car (not because I'm young). I am nearly 49, drove a little Suzuki Wagon R 1.3, full NCB & the robbing beggars wanted nearly £400 fully comp.

I have both the bikes insured, fully comp for £260, so car had to go. I reckon I have saved nearly £600 this year by getting rid, what with MOT & tax.

If we never had 2 young kids then we could ditch the car too, but until then I'll stump up the cash for the insurance and have a good old moan about it to anyone who'll listen :P

Law says their feet have to be on the pegs - doesnt say you cannot modify the pegs so that their feet reach

Jesus christ, i just looked how much a fiat panda 1.1 would be for me. 27yrs. £1100 comp! why is TPO £2500?

Various setting changed
Employed + commuting: £930
Pass plus: No difference (what a waste of time!)
Thatham3 alarm: No diffference!


Definately sticking to my bike.

I have twin boys aged 17, currently on mopeds (5 month old Sachs Speedjets if anyone is interested). One wants to move up to a 125, the other wants a car....

The BEST we could do on the cheapest Group 1 car was £1,800 TPF&T - but that was only after pretending (just to see what the quotes looked like) that he was 18, had a full driving licence and had got his Pass Plus.

At 17 with a driving licence and no Pass Plus the LOWEST we got was nearly £3k with him as the 3rd named driver. And forget all these smart boxes and pay as you drive insurance they worked out at well over £4k.

The moral:

a) Live on a Sink estate
b) Nick you first car (preferably one with a bit of tax on it)
c) Don't bother with insurance
d) Drive off without paying for your fuel
e) Use it to carry all the things you steal during riots
f) Give you Granny a lift to her 30th birthday party and get smashed out of your head
g) Do a runner when you shunt it

If you ever get caught (which is highly unlikely) don't worry about points on you licence cos you haven't got one anyway.

If you are fined it will be paid out of your benefit at £0.50 a week and you are probably making 1000 times that stealing or pushing drugs.

And if you do get sent down, look on it as a “Thieves University” as you will pick up countless tips.

God I sound like a Daily Mail reader!
