Default brown brake fluid.

Ok i dont know if ive mentioned this before but i moved to casterol super dot4 stuff a while ago. Since then ive noticed the fluid goes brown (meaning its got water in it) within a month or two! i changed it for the ar and its gone again already.

Has anyone else used this? or anyone had a similar problem? and any sugestions on how to recify it? Im thinking it could be because its more subseptable to moisture and means i may have a leaky seal or something butim not loosing any fluid at all.

all brake fluid will go from clear to tan coloured quite quickly so the only suggestion i could make is use cheaper stuff. i use halfords dot4 universal and don't see the need to change.

+1 to the above, either buy the mutts nuts and dont change it as often or buy cheap and change it everytime you change your boxers.

Or better yet, brake less

its expensive stuff im using but having to change it every 2 months is getting a bit daft. (roughly about twice the price of anything from halfords)

Its not worth changing it that often andy, even stored outside in the rain you'll not be getting that much moisture in there unless your lass is secretly watering it down lol. Even changing it ever 6months would be classed as excessive consdiering your milage.

my brothers duke had what could only be described as dark rum coloured brake fluid all round including the clutch don't think it had been changed since the day it left italy and the brakes were spot on. so don't fret about it.

Mines brown in all my bikes, so is the ZZR, trust me....if the brake fluid was wrong in that, it would end in tears!

Andy, you worry too much!

Good morning all.

A brake fluid change is one of the most overlooked points on servicing.

I see a lot of bikes that are several years old. That have obviously never had a brake fluid change. If the fluid in the master cylinder is the colour of Diet Coke, the stuff in the calipers will be rotten!

The residue from the old fluid that's left in the system will quickly contaminate the new fluid. Thereby colouring it brown quickly. The only way to get it clean is to perform a couple of fluid changes over a short period of time.

I use Castrol Motorcycle brake fluid, & have done so for many years. It's no worse than any other brake fluid when it comes to discolouration.

Cheers.
