Default How to check for a leaking tank

As per the title.

I've got a worry that the fuel tank drain has rotted near the top. I've put a bit water dispersant (GT85) down to make sure the drain is clear and a disconcerting mist came from the top of the tank (The tank has about 7l in it).

Is there anyway to check?

Thanks in advance

Andy

Yes it's easy, find the rubber tube coming from the bottom, blow up it with your finger over the hole by the filler cap, it should be air tight, remove your finger it should flow freely, if it doesn't seal then it's leaking inside, simple.

Cheers Mark.

"I've got a worry that the fuel tank drain has rotted near the top"

A while ago i had this problem on my 2000 SV. Which only showed itself when the bike wouldnt start. The drain pipe had snapped off right at the top where it joins the tank, which over time had allowed water into the tank and carb's. After draining everything down a repair was made using the 'top hat' shaped part of a large diameter pop rivet, glued into place.

May be useful if the drain line on your bike has rotted.
