When you say 'bypass', what is it that you want to do?

If the relay you're referring to is the starter solenoid, 'bypassing' it would nake the starter motor run, possibly constantly if your bypass were convincing.

i think the starter relay is knackered, i think thats what it is its the black box with the main fuse on, when i try to start the bike it just clicks, the bike has a brand new fully charged battery and it clicks then all the lights on the dash fade then it clicks again and they brighten again.

Could possibly be, but then reading this makes me doubt/wonder about that:

Hmmm... Do this:

With the ignition off put a meter that reads about 20V DC across the battery, note the voltage.
Try starting it, note the battery voltage when the solenoid 'clicks', what's the reading? Are they the same?
Put the positive lead of the meter on the output side of the solenoid, and the negative lead on the negative terminal of the battery, try starting it, when the solenoid 'clicks' what's the voltage?
Try again with the meter positive lead on the, (cleaned), terminal of the starter motor - guess what now? Voltage check.
Try again with the meter connected to the terminal on the starter and the body of the starter motor - volt check time!

I used to short out the solenoid on the JCB to start it with a 2 pence piece. They got a bit warm.

Aye your description did sound a bit loose earth, but only just read the post.
