Over the past few weeks I've gotten to thinking about an aftermarket exhaust for my SV. I would prefer to have a fuller, lower tone my bike, and any performance gains I might manage, however modest, are only a good thing, but I don't really want much of an increase in noise (I'm aware of the safety advantages of a loud exhaust, but for some reason I hate to feel as though everyone is watching me!). Should I go for it or just stick with the stock can? (I don't mind the stock can's aesthetics that much apart from the 5p sized dent... grrr) And which would be the best to go for, the above considering?

As long as you get an aftermarket exhaust that has a removable baffle then you have the best of both worlds.
I quite like the tone of mine with the baffle in, but I prefer it with the baffle out. Both sound better than standard. |

I got a Carbon Can Co exhaust on mine and it sounds about how you say you want yours to sound with the baffle in, with it out it's even better, and on the pointy it crackles and pops on over-run

I got a fuel oval can, sounds and looks good. Removable baffle for a better sound, but as I like my neighbours I leave it in. They do stubby one too or carbon. Road legal markings.

yes, after you have one you won't go back. the sound is addictive! You can get an exhaust to suit your taste of looks, sound and noise level. A lot of choice is out there, simply choose one you like. I've always had Scorpion cans, sound the nuts-even with the baffle in. I currently have a Pipe Werx pipe, and it sounds like the kind you are after. When driving along normally it's almost silent and hides away. It growls nicely under WOT and isn't a noticeable sound when cruising along at any speeds whether it be 30mph or 100mph.
They are British and have a life time warranty IIRC. Check out their Ebay shop for all the models they do. |

Go for it, it was without a doubt the most grin inducing mod I ever did to my SV.
As said above, one with a removable baffle will keep the noise level reasonable with the baffle in.

Yeah, mine sounded awesome on the short ride I got out on it before it broke down. It's a Remus, as said, plenty or gargles and pops when you close the throttle! Not super noisey though, removable baffle is still in, just sounds good.

I've found mine just legal with the baffle in! Mine's a Simmi Performance and is pretty much a road legal race can They're £125 posted if my memory serves me and made to order
