Default Scratched tank paint repair advice

Any advice on the best way to sort this out?

After my little incident with conkers yesterday, i have a nice scratched patch on my tank.

I already have a can of spray paint that matches my bike colour. Im wondered what is the best way to fill in the scratches. Build up primer????

I know it is never gonna look perfect, but i cant make it look any worse than it already is

All advice appreciated. I have looked on ebay, but its lacking on detail and usually the advice is for small scratches.

Im thinking.

Clean

tape area off
light sand (what grit?)
standard primer coat
successive coats of build up primer, sand (what grit?)
paint (sand?)
clear coat (2000 grit to polish?)

take a trip to your local spray painter ask how much if you supply paint. job jobbed with no hassle.

by the time you go buying all the crap needed to do the job you might end up saving £20 or so.

Wouldnt that cost more than a second hand tank though? This is a temporary skint solution The tank has a few other scrathes anyway

you might be surprised at what a back street sprayer will charge. and at the end of it you will have a lovely nice shiny tank to look at.

if its a temp solution then just rub down and paint affected area. it will look rough though.

Why not just spray the whole tank? surely it would look better than a touch up and still a cheaper option?

Right i had a go, first time ive really done anything like this.

Considering the paint wasn't a great match, im half please with it. I need to just experiment with the laquer to get the shine back now.

Beabert, i had my pointy tank repaired (dented) and sprayed for £120 by a place in the black country.

You won't get the shine without plenty layers of clear, allow to garden for a month then a good mop polish will get it reasonable.

Good price, can you remember where?

I quite fancy having a go myself, even though it would cost alot in equipment. Its worth it as i like learning new skills, very enjoyable.

Back to this bodge, its hard to know how much laquer to use. Also, the rubbing compound just takes off laquer it seems! This stuff is no replacement for the two part urethane and hardener the pros use.

Yep, ill be getting some sliders soon too
