Default Two days in Edinburgh - recommendations

I fly up to Edinburgh to work most weeks, but rarely get the time to look around. I am taking Mrs Mattsv tomorrow for a couple of days, staying in town with no car - what would you recommend us to see/do?

Castle is always worth a shot if you're into the historic thing, the zoo is decent, camera obscura, plenty of museums etc. Harvey Nichols chocolate bar on the top floor for the most outrageous hot chocolate in the city. Sure some of the locals will be along with better ideas shortly.

Castle is kind of a must do.
Camera Obscura was quite good to.

When we went the weather was cack so we spent and afternoon at "Our Dynamic Earth" was absorbing enough to keep me entertained for a couple of hours and I get bored really easily..

We got a ticket for one of the Tour Buses and IIRC that takes you around everywhere and you get hop on and off of it without getting charged anymore than your intial payment...

+1

Me and the Mrs were up there earlier in the year, at £3 each for an all day roaming bus ticket it made life so much easier.

Castle deffo, don't know if it's your thing, but the Botanic gardens are well worth a visit, free, ( well actually donation), to roam around the outdoor gardens and not a lot to look around the glasshouses.

Castle is on the list, quite fancy a spot of whisky tasting, maybe a ghost tour?

Surgeons Hall was free last week when I was there.

Also I'd not bother with the zoo, it's ridiculously expensive and not that exciting.

National Museum of Scotland has just been re-opened after a multi million £ revamp - well worth a visit.

As everyone is suggesting, I'd recommend the Castle. I spent hours there wandering around on my own! Also a night time ghost tour is a giggle, getting to see under Edinburgh.

Pub wise I always quite enjoyed the Tron http://www.edinburghpubguide.co.uk/P...n__The_54.html

You could take a wander up to the monument too. http://edsphotoblog.com/wp-content/p..._edinburgh.jpg it's a bit random but cool to see. There is also an interesting graveyard on the way up to it if you like seeing big stone mossoleums.
