Hey all,
So, second post on here. Managed to sort my electrical gremlins out and had the bike running smoothly for the past 6 weeks and been having an awesome time on it... Now for the bad news; after a weekend away I return to find some total git has tried to have my bike away. ![]() They were obviously put off by the lock I had on which was only a heavy duty bicylcle D-lock (16mm diameter hardened steel). Just wish they had realised they weren't going to get passed the lock before breaking everything else! Just ordered a new cover that can be locked to the bike and put an extra heavy duty oxford chain on it. Does anyone know the likely cost to repair these bits and pieces? Or know a decent mechanic who can look at this for me (South Bristol area). Cheers, |

Quick update, I've found a top plate of the yoke from a breakers for £30 and had a quick look on youtube to find how to take it out and replace....seems like an easy job. I'll probably have a go at it myself. Does anyone know how to fix a broken steering lock (where are the mechanics of the steering lock, in the ignition barrel?)?
Thanks again. |

Reeder stop being a c***. The man's asking for help and that could get someone into trouble at work or something.
Fair enough where you're all talking b*llocks in idle banter but if you haven't got anything useful to add in here then p*ss off.

Aye, back to IB with you.
All will become clear on the steering lock when you take the barrel off the existing top yoke. They've probably knackered it - hopefully they've not damaged the frame. The ignition barrel's held on with two torx security bolts and permanent threadlock. The correct way is to get the correct socket bit and apply some heat to remove them. As your yoke's toast anyway I'd just drill the heads off the security bolts and be done with it. Last edited by TamSV; 25-10-11 at 02:09 PM. |

I'd be changing that lock if I was you (or more likely getting something better and using it as a secondary lock) as 1. Bike locks ,are notoriously easy to break and 2. they might come back equipped.
MY mates just had 1400 quids worth of bicycle nicked which was secured with halfords most expensive lock...and under cctv

Looking back at your earlier posts, you've got a curvy S so easy enough job to remove the yoke.
Remove the big nut and washer in the middle, the main one that holds the yoke on the stem. Loosen the pinch bolts on either side that clamp the yoke onto the forks. Look under the yoke and you'll see that each clipon has a locating bolt that screws into the underside of the yoke - remove them. The yoke should now lift off the forks/stem with the ignition barrel attached. Flip the yoke over and attack the security bolts to get the barrel out. You don't need to support the bike while you do this - the bottom yoke will hold it, so the front end won't collapse. Just don't undo those big nuts on top of the fork legs. ![]() |

Cool, thanks for the replies.....not the link.....
![]() I've put a heavy duty oxford chain on it now with a (supposedly) unpick-able lock so hopefully that'll put them off coming back for it. If they couldn't get through a bicycle lock then I doubt they'll get through the chain. Doesn't seem like they knew what they were doing, probably just some scummy b#stard kids looking for a joy ride. I'll get the yoke off this weekend and assess the damage. Fingers crossed the frame is ok, as the ignition barrel has moved in the yoke I'm hoping the steering lock stud has bent slightly rather than the frame being damaged. I'll keep you posted. P.s. can you fit flame throwers to a motorcylce to suprise the TWOCers? |
