I'm looking to get my Father-in-Law to respray my mudguard, nose cone and rear fairing panels.
The bike is a K8, with Pearl Nebular Black (YAY) colour code. Although he has experience of 2k, I'm thinking that base + lacquer would be easier. Where's the best place to get the paint from and how much would I need if I wanted to respray the whole bike (fairings/mudguard/nose cone/rear panels/tank/grab rail/seat cowl)? Cheers |

I've used these guys before http://auto-paint.co.uk/carpaint/index.php
Will supply in aerosol or tin. If you cant find what you're after on the website, give them a bell. They were really helpful with me. They'll advise you on amount required too. Last edited by dkid; 30-01-12 at 03:05 PM. |

Speak to a bike spraying firm, will be cheaper than the above two

Cheers guys, I was looking at http://www.wigancarpaints.co.uk/ or www.paints4u.com for the paint.
Wanted to get an idea of which method though, as I understand it I can go:- Basecoat + clearcoat (lacquer) 2pk base + lacquer 2pk full gloss - no lacquer required Is that right and which, if any, are the best or is it down to individual preference/equipment etc? From what I've read, 2pk is more durable/stronger, however needs air-fed mask and/or vented premises, whereas normal basecoat and lacquer doesn't. The Father-in-law can do either, so it's really down to which is 'best'. |

Wigan car paints is about 2 miles from my house and I get 2K from there.
They are very good and reasonable price. Primer then 2K is what I normally use and you need a vented place as its bad stuff but its very strong and petrol resistant. You will get a better finish with 2K Pot of 2K will cost around £20 for 1/2 litre, you will need good quality thinners for the paint £10 for 1 litre and normal thinners to clean £7 for 5 litres. Plus primer budget for same cost as paint and thinners Use a small sprayer gun with the bottle on top then you wont waste paint 1/2 litre paint is enough for a fully faired bike + extra if you are doing wheels too |

Thanks Harry - very helpful.
Father-in-law has worked in/around Wigan all his life in caravan manufacturing, he was on about basecoat/2pk/lacquer etc the other night and I kinda glazed over. He's going to do all the work, I just need to get the paint lol Don't forget to keep me in mind for a cheap/mint track bike before you jet off to Almeria ![]() |

Hi Dave
If you are made of money RS Paint will do an exact colour match. Cost me a 100 quid for the paint for my fairing lowers and seat cowl and same again for a pro paint job. Thr result was worth every penny. Flog a few of those dodgy fairings you are renown for and you should cover the costs easily ![]() |
