Default Changed brake pedal, brake light stays on.

Hi guys,

Firstly I would like to introduce myself into the SV650 forum. I am from Birmingham ad own a 2002 K2 Suzuki SV650 and have been riding for just over a year.

I recently dropped my bike and in doing so I damaged my rear brake pedal, brake handle, indicator.

I have taken off the brake handle from the bar and am awaiting delivery of this item. I have also replaced the foot pedal. However I find that the rear brake light stays on. I have tried adjusting the springs attached to it but this does not work. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to wait for the hand brake lever and attach that to see if it works.

Any suggestions please..........

Both front and rear brakes have a switch to turn the brake light on.
The (front brake) lever switch is located under the master cyilinder and allows no adjusting but if you don't have the brake lever installed it should be switched to "on" position.
Try with that very little switch switched to the "off" position by pushing it (just as the lever does when you're not braking) and see what happens.
You might need to adjust the rear brake pedal switch again now that you have been playing with it, anyway, but if you do it with the front brake switched off it should now work, I reckon.
Sorry if my English is not very clear (I'm Spanish).

I've recently worked on my bike and part of the work required me to remove the brake pedal and refit it.

I had the same problem you are describing once I fit it back on but for me it was as simple as pushing all the wires down firmly to secure them onto their place on the hanger... sorry for the really crappy description but if you did understand what I'm on about - try it yourself, will hopefully work!

Ok guys, I have fit the rear brake pedal and the hand lever, brakes work fine now, however the only problem I have is that I have to press the foot pedal quite hard for the rear brake light to come on. I khave re- attached the two springs at the back just as they were when I removed them, which one will I need to adjust and how please. The bike is a Suzuki sv650s 2002 k2. Thanks guys

The springs aren't adjustable - the switch is.

If you look at the body of the switch you'll notice that it is threaded, and that it sits in an hexagonal plastic nut in the footrest hanger. Do not rotate the switch - the wires can get damaged - hold it still and turn the nut around it and you'll see the switch rises and falls a teeny bit as you do so.
If the light stays on the switch is too high, if it doesn't come on until King Kong is leaning on the pedal it's too low.
Try to get the light to illuminate when the pedal is moved but before the brake is applied, that way it will come on a moment before you actually brake and will give anyone behind you adequate notice.

HTH.
