Last year when I was building my forks up I had a really nice print out of how to set them up with emulators and what oil height to use.
Now I'm putting some different springs in and I can't find it for the life of me. Anyone out there got a link on how to set up a carby SV650 with the emulators and what oil height to aim for? Cheers. Jody. |

Drill comp holes to 10mm, weld up rebound hole, 2 1/2 turns on spring, 125mm and see how it rides.

Id recommend not welding the rebound hole, have found the forks work better for racing without.

Surely that necessitates using a thicker oil?

130mm a/g with linear springs will use full travel without bottoming, reduce this if you run the forks through the yokes.
15wt .8> .85 20wt .85> over Use a 'pro' type oil (putoline hpx or silkolene pro) otherwise damping will fade with heat, I use putoline as found its the most stable, have had bikes with other oils do a 20min session and come back in with no damping! The rebound hole is so small, it's the leakage through the shuttle that dictates most of the rebound, pattern tubes can did different results to oem Last edited by Robw#70; 18-02-12 at 05:06 PM. |

Thanks to all for your replies.
Ran with the emulators, progressive springs, 20wt oil and 120mm gap last year and got on ok but ran a fair bit of pre-load to stop them bottoming out. Was running what came with the bike so not really set up for my weight. Changing to 0.9s this year and will use 20wt oil again so will try the air gaps being recommended. Hopefully I'll end up with a better front end My biggest issue is now remembering where I've put my new springs. Not happy. |

Progressive springs dont really work with emulators as they change rate as they are used where as the damping is adjusted to suit a linear rate, usually the airgap is bigger (160 on some) on a progressive spring as there's more spring in the oil
