Default MOT and Rear shock advisory

At the last MOT, my bike had an advisory for the rear shock stating it had lost some of it's damping ability.

Should I be considering replacing it, and if so, recommend me a rear shock (I'm nearly 14 stone 7 and 6ft 4).

Come on Dave, there's millions of treads on here about rear shocks, take your pick. Just as a matter of interest is there any signs of a leak or anything around the shock?

No signs of leaks and it feels alright to ride.

None of the threads talk about whether it's likely I will now fail my mot because of it...

I guess if they bounce the bike and it's really bad they might fail it, but usually it's down to an obvious leak. How long before your MOT and has it got any worse since they pointed it out to you?

I purchased the bike start of this year and MOT is due April 8th - so I don't know if it's any worse.

Reason for rejection section 2.4,3b
A shock absorber with inadequate damping effect or insecurely mounted (see information column)

Is it possible the previous owner acted on the advisory and did something about it? How does it feel to you now? Easiest way is to find another bike (obviously similar spec) and compare them. Word of advice though, don't to it to some random bike you see parked up somewhere.......at least not without checking over your shoulder first!

How would they measure "inadequate damping effect"? Surely it would have to be just about unrideable to fail on that.

If they move it onto brake tester and it bounces like a cadillac

It feels fine to ride, bounces around a bit when under power and over bumps but all SVs do?

He didn't do anything about it, he told me he didn't.

I have been considering doing a shock swap anyway so I may just do that I guess.
