Linear (normal) springs are used with Emulators. I use Silkolene RSF Pro 10W to suit my emulator set up but be prepared to experiment with different oil weights to suit your rebounds damping likes. Search for threads re fork oil as there is lots of info on here that is important such as Viscosity Index etc.

Do you know if it's worth putting on preload caps from a later model if using emulators?

You can use suitable diameter washers under the caps to vary preload.

I added them to my curvy when upgrading the springs/emulators because I sometimes had a pillion and it was useful to stiffen the front end.
