Hey all! Had my bike off the road since November and seeing as the weather is picking up heat wise i decided to get some new rubber and start biking again. Only i have now encountered a problem since taking my wheels off to have tyres fitted.
Putting everything back together, adjusting my chain to the right tension and making sure the marks are both equal on both sides i have now developed a clicking noise/feeling though the rear wheel. I have worked a few things out about the cause: Its not the wheel bearings as with the chain off the sprocket and no caliper the wheel will spin smoothly forever (pretty much) And two with the chain on the sprocket, once you start getting some tension in it the clicking begins and if you look closely you can see that the chain sits far over to the left side of the sprocket (if your stood behind the bike). So when its engaging the chain at the bottom of the sprocket every 1/10th or so a turn you can see the chain moving to the right (as in to get back on the center of the sprocket. Im really stuck with this now ![]() ![]() From what i remember last weekend they weren't that shiny on the outside.. Has anyone got any clues?? Before anyone says I know its not the chain running across the chain slider ![]() Thanks phil |

Have you got all the spacers etc in the right way? I don't know about the pointy but on the curvy there's a spacer inside the sprocket carrier that's easy to drop without noticing.
If you've got everything in the right place, set the alignment with a straight edge rather than using the swingarm markings, then tighten it all up to the correct torque and see how you go. |

As above - looking at the marks on the rubbers they appear to be squashed a bit at the outer edges, the spacer being omitted would do that.
Piece number 15 in this picture: Link.

How old is the C&S?Could they be worn? Also try checking the adjustment again and see if loosening it a bit stops the noise. You may have a tight spot you missed when adjusting.
Oh and another vote for getting a straight edge along the wheels to check alignment.

Both are only around 4000 miles, iv had them soaking in oil over winter and its free as anything. It seems to of gotten a bit better now and if i spin the wheel quickly it goes, but still there when moving it slowly.
How do i check wheel alignment, never done that one before.. Thanks =] |

Maybe a silly comment but
Is the chain too tight? |
