Hi Guys n Gals
Been out on the SV today totally normal until this after noon. Came out of a shop and the beast wouldn't start. Starter whirled buy no engagement to turn engine. Bumped it a few times and it released but the engine was flooded. Sorted plugs out and it turned over but wouldn't fire, then the starter jammed again - whirled but no engagement. Had to be relayed home - Boo Hoo Any ideas or advice please. ![]() Last edited by Zuki08; 14-04-12 at 09:16 PM. Reason: INCORRECT HEADER TYPED |

Are you sure the starter is turning? If yes but the motor definitely isn't, then the fault is with the starter clutch, which is fitted to the back of the rotor on the left end of the crank, or possibly either the intermediate gear or the starter pinion teeth are damaged. The starter clutch is the most common cause of the fault you describe. Particularly as you say the engine does occasionally turn, which is often the case with a dud starter clutch.
Either way the problem is under the front left engine case.

I saw your bike on the low loader, didn't know you had broken down when I was on my way in.
Let me know if you need a hand. |
