Default Which method to mount my driftHD170?

Just got myself a new Drift HD170. It was going on Amazon for £125 which was a right bargain, but seems to have already gone back up to £175! Anyway, I have a choice of a velcro patch or a 3M branded sticky pad to attach the helmet mount to the top of my lid. But I'm completely undecided which to use.

Velcro means I can remove the mount, leaving only a small patch of black velcro attached to my helmet. Sticky pad means the mount (which is about 1CM tall and black) will always be on my lid. Velcro means I can realign the camera a bit if I don't apply the pads right first time, but also means I have to take care of alignment each time ... sticky pad means I have to get it right, but once done, it's done. Velcro may allow for some wobble and freeplay, where as sticky pad should stay rigid. Sticky pad is slightly larger too. Don't know which would be stronger and more reliabile.

Argggh. What does everyone reckon?!?!

Shown where I'm mounting it and the two pads ...

velcro every time! if you're worried about alignment a small and discreet line can be drawn on the mount and your lid to aid you getting it square first time round.

Why so much love for the velcro? Do you think it'll hold better?

i'm just a big velcro fan, plus you won't constantly have people asking 'whats that thing on your head?'

I mounted mine on top with the 3M tape, thus leaving the mount there all the time. The lens allows you to correct the horizontal axis, I just experimented with gaffa tape to get the required vertical axis.
The Drift at £175 is the new version which is smaller.

I asked this question on another forum too. Two answers: one velcro, one 3M tape! Same as you guys. Looks like it's horses for courses, but I do like the idea of a sturdier permanent 3M solution. I don't think the bit of plastic looks too intrusive, since my helmet is black anyway, and the mount would butt up against the black rear vent plastic.

I'll try your idea Stenno of taping it on with some duct tape or something, then sitting on my bike and look about and see if I'm happy with the position before I do anything else. I'm thinking it makes more sense to favour it tipping downwards slightly. The road/handlebars are more interesting than sky, but I suppose the rider in front should be in the middle of the picture when you're travelling at speed and have your head down a bit.

Yeah I prefer my bike out of sight personally. Those who have it on display have to cover the dials everytime they break the speed limit. Although if the police want to catch you they can just time you between points of interest etc

So I suppose if the old bill pull you over for thinking you're speeding (of course, I never do!), the sensible thing to do is launch your Drift over a hedgerow into a field and blame it on a spasming arm.

Oh I just mean if you put it online on youtube. The police tried convicting one guy by working out the distance between street signs over the time he took to pass them. However I believe it never went to court as they could prove a time and date for the offence and he never confessed to it being him! Player.

Interesting point. Plus, who's to say he didn't speed up the video to make himself look better than he actually was? There's no way you could prove the timing is accurate. But for the record, I wouldn't be uploading crazy shananigans to YouTube. I used to have a very quick car many moons ago, and when I mounted a camera in that, it just encouraged foolishness. I won't be making the same mistake on the bike. I am no ghost rider.
